Become a certified Assistant Instructor with SSI

The Assistant Instructor rating is the next step after becoming a Divemaster along the scuba instructor pathway.

It allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct in-water training.

If you want to further your career as a dive professional, you can finish the Instructor Training Course, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become an Open Water Diving Instructor.

Assistant Instructor Pre-Requisites

  • Minimum age is 18.
  • SSI Divemaster, SSI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver qualifications or equivalent certification from another training agency
  • Minimum 60 logged dives (totaling 40 hours dive time or more)
  • Assistant Instructor candidates must have logged at least 75 open water dives totaling 50 hours or more
  • All participants must be fit for diving and submit a full medical statement, signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

What's included?
The course fee includes, air, tuition, swimming pool fees. Not included: SSI Training Materials. (The SSI IDC crewpak includes all the materials needed to prepare for a SSI Assistant Instructor or Open Water Scuba Instructor course.)

Course Duration
Dependent upon logistics and student performance but can be completed over 4 days.

Scuba Equipment Requirements
As a dive professional, you will need to have all your own dive equipment that is in good condition and within the manufacturers service guidelines. 
Equipment must include: Regulator, Alternate Air Source, SPG, Depth Gauge, Timing Device, BCD, Exposure Suit, Weight System, two Signalling Devices (Whistle / SMB's etc), Dive Compass and Dive Knife.
Discounts are available on any required equipment purchases made during your enrolment on the course.
