Become a certified SSI Diver Propulsion (DPV) diver.

If you want to make the most of your bottom time and have more fun on your dives, try underwater scooter or diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) diving.

In this underwater scooter and DPV course, you will learn the skills and concepts you need to safely plan and conduct dives using scooters or DPVs. You will learn the special precautions needed for using DPVs, how to maintain buddy contact and how to control your equipment, so you can safely enjoy the new dive experiences DPVs provide.

Upon completion of this program, you will earn the SSI DPV Diving specialty certification and be able to dive up to 30 meters deep with a scooter or DPV.

Diver Propulsion Vehicle Diver Pre-Requisites

  • Minimum age 12.
  • Students must be certified as a
  • PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, or qualifying entry-level certification.
  • All participants must download and complete the SSI Medical Disclaimer Form prior to participation. Any pre-existing medical conditions highlighted on this form will require medical clearance before we can allow you to take part.

How do I sign up? 

  • Download the SSI APP Register for FREE and complete your profile in full.
  • Complete the SSI Medical Disclaimer Form in the APP or download and email to info@jcscuba.net for us to review.
  • Pay your non-refundable deposit to secure your place. Balance payment is required prior to going to open water. (Any discounts are applied at the end of your chosen course).  
  • Once your order comes through we will check the calendar and advise you of our next available start date.  

What will I do?

  • The planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, and hazards of diving with an underwater propulsion vehicle.
  • Equipment considerations including but not limited to battery care, maintenance and precautions.
  • Proper procedures for: determining a turnaround point, vehicle failure, runaway motor, descents, ascents and avoiding propeller entanglements. 
  • Techniques to avoid handling harming fragile aquatic life.
  • Techniques for entering and exiting the water with a Diver Propulsion Vehicle.

      Learn to conserve your energy and air, avoid problems like ascending/descending too fast, motor entanglements, losing track of your buddy and running out of battery power. The PADI DPV Specialty course covers the safety procedures, the most effective method of swimming with a DPV, buddy procedures during the dive and problems and hazards.

      Students must complete two open water dives with a DPV to certify as SSI DPV Diver. Each dive has specific tasks designed to help students with the considerations for diving with a DPV such as entries and exits, descents and ascents, manoeuvring and buddy contact.
